Carbon Tax (Carbon Pricing Act 2018)
Singapore introduced a carbon tax on 1 January 2019 under the Carbon Pricing Act, the first carbon pricing scheme in Southeast Asia. The rate rose to S$45 per tonne from 1 January 2026 for 2026 and 2027, with a stated aim of S$50–80 per tonne by 2030.

The tax applies to facilities that directly emit at least 25,000 tCO2e of greenhouse gases a year and is administered by the National Environment Agency under the Carbon Pricing Act, which also sets measurement, reporting and verification requirements. According to the National Climate Change Secretariat, around 70% of national emissions are covered by the carbon tax on about 50 facilities, and about 80% when fuel excise duties are included.
The rate was S$5 per tonne from 2019 to 2023 and S$25 from 2024, and is S$45 from 1 January 2026 for 2026 and 2027. Since 2024 companies may use eligible international carbon credits to offset up to 5% of their taxable emissions, and a transition framework provides allowances to emissions-intensive, trade-exposed companies based on efficiency benchmarks and decarbonisation plans.
