Privacy policy

How we handle the limited personal information you share with us. Last updated: October 2026.

Overview

Green Diplomat (“we”, “us”) is an independent climate diplomacy initiative. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, how we use it, and the choices you have. We collect as little as possible and never sell it.

Who is responsible

Green Diplomat, founded by Hatim Aznague, is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us about any data question at contact@greendiplomat.com.

Information we collect

  • Newsletter sign-ups: the email address you submit to receive the Dispatch.
  • Enquiries: the name, email address, organisation and message you send through the contact form. To prevent abuse, a salted one-way code derived from your network address is kept for up to an hour when you send a message or an Academy request.
  • Technical data: standard server logs, and aggregate, privacy-respecting statistics (pages viewed, approximate region, device type) used only to understand and improve the site.
  • Academy accounts: if you request access to the Academy, your name, email address, organisation, position, country and, if you add it, how you will use the Academy. We use these details to review your request and to run your learner account. Modules you complete are saved with your account.
  • Self-test scores: your best score on the Radar self-test is stored only in your own browser and is never sent to us.
  • Ask the Radar: the question you type. It is not stored with your name, email or any identifier. To prevent abuse, a salted one-way code derived from your network address is kept for ten minutes, and answers are kept against the question text for up to a week so repeated questions are answered quickly.
  • Usage counts: monthly totals of open-data downloads, completed self-tests and views of the Radar embedded on other websites (recorded with the embedding site’s domain name only). These counts contain no personal data and use no cookies.

Apart from Academy learner accounts, which you request and we approve, we do not operate user accounts for visitors. We do not take payments or request sensitive personal data through this site.

How we use it

  • To send the newsletter you requested and to respond to your enquiries.
  • To maintain the security and performance of the site.
  • To understand, in aggregate, how the site is used.

Messages and sign-ups are stored in the website’s administration area and sent to our inbox by email.

Legal basis

Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we rely on your consent to send the newsletter and to run your Academy account, which you may withdraw at any time, and on our legitimate interest in answering your enquiries, keeping the site secure and understanding how it is used. Where statistics require consent, we ask for it first.

Cookies

The site uses only the cookies necessary for it to function, plus any aggregate statistics noted above. Where required, statistics run only with your consent. You can block cookies in your browser settings.

Sharing

We do not sell or rent your information. We share it only with the service providers that host the site and deliver email on our behalf, with our AI provider (Google for Gemini, or Anthropic for Claude, whichever the question box names) for the text of questions put to Ask the Radar when AI answers are switched on, under appropriate confidentiality terms, and where the law requires. These providers act as our processors and may use the data only on our instructions. Some may operate outside the European Economic Area; where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, you can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, and you can ask us to close your Academy account and delete its details. If you are in the EU, you also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing and to data portability. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below.

If you believe we have mishandled your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. In Spain this is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD, www.aepd.es).

Retention

We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law, and then delete it.
