Capstone: A Jurisdiction Dossier
The assessed exercise: produce a fully sourced dossier on one jurisdiction's climate statute book.
Study time: 120 min
By the end of this module you can
- Assemble a complete, cited instrument inventory
- Write a brief that separates fact, source and inference
- Publish with provenance a reader can audit
Overview
The Green Data track's capstone. You take a single jurisdiction and produce a complete, cited inventory of its climate statute book — a brief that separates fact from source from inference, and publishes with provenance a reader can audit. It is the whole track in one deliverable: classified correctly, sourced to primaries, and honest about what is not yet known.
Exercise
Assemble the instrument inventory for your chosen jurisdiction. For each entry, record: instrument, legal stage, primary source, verification status.
Write the one-page brief. Mark each sentence F (fact), S (source) or I (inference). No sentence should be unmarked.
Self-check
Check your understanding
-
A dossier is only as credible as its weakest uncited cell.
-
Primary legal texts settle the question of stage; secondary sources only point to them.
-
Legal status changes; the date tells the reader how fresh the check is.
